Rick and Pedro DaCosta and their team completed two driveway projects for us this past year. In both cases, they did much more than pave the driveways; they assessed each situation, and then shed their expertise with regard to the most prudent way to proceed regarding dimensions, curbs, etc. Both driveways look great, but are also well constructed. (One of them doubles as a basketball/pickleball court that is just as smooth and level as any of the professional courts around Bethel or Danbury!) When I was growing up, and my parents owned their own business, people went to them because they trusted them, and their customers wanted to purchase a product from someone who was very knowledgeable in their area. This is exactly what we found in the DaCosta family, for it is a multi generational operation where they absolutely know their product inside and out. We would’ve been happy to pay a bit more for their knowledge, but that wasn’t necessary because their price was so fair. From the start of the project through the very end, the DaCosta brothers’ integrity shined, right through. I’m very grateful not only for both jobs well done, but for the seamless process in getting there. Thank you so much Pedro, Rick and crew.

DaCosta paved our shared driveway. It cost almost $20,000 and this cost was split 50/50 between us and our neighbors. At the bottom of the driveway, where you turn out onto our neighborhood street, DaCosta left a 90 degree angle of asphalt that was elevated inches above the street (picture attached). As a new mother, I could not push my stroller up over this sharp drop off and was scared about snow plows destroying it this winter and tripping over it and falling. It took a lot of calls and many weeks for them to come fix it as they planned on leaving it the way it was and I was told it would "smooth out over time". Unfortunately, they could not make our driveway smoothly lead out onto the road again as it had before and eventually they patched the end with even more asphalt which smoothed out the hard angle but looks sloppy and is already crumbling at one end (picture attached). I am so disappointed that this is the work that we got from this company. I was told the driveway had a steep drop off to the street to "mitigate pooling" but no other driveway on our street (or anywhere else for that matter) looked like ours now did. It also still pools when it rains. We wanted to be able to pull in and out of our driveway without a big KER-THUMP when in the car. This is not possible now. I have not been contacted by anyone from DaCosta despite calling multiple times to try to discuss what can be done. The last time I called was this week and the woman who answered the phone hung up on me once I told her who I was and asked to speak to someone. Why would they not want to make this right with a customer? They cashed our check so I am guessing since they have our money they will not be speaking to us again. It is profoundly upsetting that after such a large amount of money spent, we are left with something that we are not happy with. I do not like leaving negative reviews but this one was truly earned. Buyer beware. As DaCosta is very good about responding to negative reviews and not phone calls directly to their office, I'm going to address their below response as much as I can within the character limit on this page. "I’d like to clarify this individual had no communication with us from the very early stages of bidding/planning this project all the way to the completion of the job." You're right. It wasn't me. You met and worked with my husband as I was caring for our newborn daughter inside our home. My husband shares my opinion about the work that was done and has communicated that to our neighbor and we have been trying to communicate that to you too if someone would get back to us. "We truly apologize for any miscommunication regarding the entrance of the access way, but the entrance did have an existing lip prior to excavating. The previous edge was so worn down from traffic over time, it didn’t seem as abrupt. We did in fact explain that this would be the case again after several months." This apology would've been very meaningful to me if someone had taken the time to simply call me back and communicate this. Prior to the work that was done there was no bump to get into or out of my driveway. There is one now. I do not want to have to wait years to have the asphalt worn down to have a smooth entrance and exit. I do not think that is too much to ask. "If you were so concerned with various aspects of the project you could have easily reached out to us to voice your concerns or questions." I have been calling. Almost every day. No one ever got back to me. Ever. All of this could've been mitigated with a discussion prior to the corrective work that was done. "We were kind enough to return and reheat the asphalt and round off the edge. Unfortunately there’s no other method to achieve the results you desired." If someone had called me back while I was calling and leaving messages almost every day prior to this corrective work being done, you could've related this information to me directly. Why didn't you just call me back? It makes me sad I even had to post this negative review to get someone to finally respond.

Pedro and Rick did a great job on our driveway. It was a difficult project that included replacing the drainage, removing tree stumps and reshaping the driveway. They explained our options throughout the project and we’re very happy with the result. I would definitely recommend DaCosta Construction.
