Deeply Disappointed as a Homeowner and Neighbor I’m incredibly upset with Heidelberg Materials for closing down the walking and biking trails in our neighborhood — trails that have been an essential part of our daily lives for years. What makes this even more frustrating is that we don’t even live near the quarry itself. We’re nowhere close to active operations, yet our access to public green space has been taken away without consideration for the local community. These trails were more than just dirt paths. They were a place where families bonded, where kids learned to ride bikes, where people cleared their heads after long workdays. Now, thanks to Heidelberg’s decision, that’s all gone. It feels like the needs of a corporation have been placed above the wellbeing of the very people who live here. The lack of communication and transparency is equally disturbing. No community meetings, no warning — just barriers put up and the sense that our voices don’t matter. It’s demoralizing to feel so disregarded in your own neighborhood. Do better, Heidelberg. Respect the communities you operate in — even the ones you’re not directly impacting with your quarry.

Expanding even further into areas around neighborhoods. Areas were used for bike trails and hiking. Greedy company

Shame on Hanson Aggregates for the selling the 25 acres of land across the street from the quarry and also shame on the City of Raleigh for rezoning it. Been driving past this area every day for 18 years and I've always enjoyed the mountain-like scenery on both side of the bridge. No more folks. Just more "luxury" apartments. Like we don't have enough. No wonder there's been deer and other wild animals showing up in the neighborhood. They're run out of their natural habitat with nowhere else to go. Greed know no limits.
